What Can I Use a Crochet Heart For?

Anything! That is the honest answer. You can use this cute make for anything you wish and can imagine. The only limit really is your imagination.

Apart from the obvious choice like Valentine’s Day, you can also use a crochet heart for other special occasions. Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays, baby showers, engagement parties or weddings, thanksgiving, and any other special occasion really.

Crochet heart is often a component of a bigger project. The most common use for it is as an appliqué you can add to any other project. You can attach a crochet heart to cards, bookmarks or use it as a gift wrap for a store-bought item.

Different Ways To Adjust A Crochet Heart

Sometimes we require crochet hearts that are smaller, sometimes we have a large project in mind. Adjusting the size of the heart should not be a problem.

You can simply do this by changing three things – yarn weight, hook size or stitch size. There is no need to change the actual pattern or stitch count you are following.

By choosing thicker yarn, a larger hook, and using a tall stitch your heart will be larger. However, if you choose thin yarn, a small hook, and small stitches like single crochet, your heart will come out small.

10 Different Ways To Crochet A Heart

These are the ten different ways and items you can crochet using this cute shape.

Flat Crochet Heart In Rounds

This is a simple way to make this cute shape. You start working into a magic circle or starting chain stitch.

You can crochet it by crocheting just one round. This round will consist of different heights of stitches to achieve the shape. You can change the size of this simple heart by changing the yarn and hook as I mentioned above.

However, this is sometimes not desirable or you may simply need the heart to be larger than you one you can achieve by changing hook and yarn size.

In this case, you can add another round or even two. This will increase the size again.

Granny Square Heart

This is another great pattern that is easy to adjust. You start with a simple solid granny square in the middle. Once you reach the square shape you then add shell stitches onto two sides of the square to turn it into a heart shape.

To change the size, you need to change the size of the solid granny square in the middle. You can also use taller stitches for the shell stitches on either size, consequently increasing the overall size. The shell stitch for this granny square has 7 dc stitches, separated with an sc in the corner.

The full written pattern is currently not available. However, there is a full video tutorial available in my membership The Crochet Club.

Corner To Corner Heart

This is a great technique to create a crochet heart of any size. You will start with a graph to work from. This is when you can increase or decrease the overall size.

The other way is to change the stitch you will use. You can use the traditional double crochet. However, there is also mini c2c which uses half double crochet. This would make the finished item smaller.

You can use the finished c2c square as a pillow cover, washcloth, dishcloth, or make it into a small pouch.

The full written pattern is currently not available, but the graph is below. However, there is a full video tutorial available in my membership The Crochet Club.
