How to watch the 2024 Indy 500 race taking place today: TV, odds (2024)

The 2024 Indianapolis 500 gets underway today with the 108th running of the biggest spectacle in IndyCar racing kicking off live from Indiana. NBC’s race coverage begins at 8 a.m. PT as 33 drivers get to the starting grid and eventually vie for position over 200 laps and 500 miles for the right to chug a cold bottle of milk following a first-place finish as tradition merits. Why the milk? The tradition began in the 1930s when two-time winner Louis Meyer asked for a glass of buttermilk after his second victory. After winning a third Indy 500 in 1936, a photo of Meyer drinking buttermilk led to a dairy industry executive requesting milk be available annually to the winner.
